I have not tried installing any HP driver for fingerprint reader afterwards. I do not want to take any chances, you see! One thing peculiar I noticed about windows 10 is your hardware works fine if you install it clean not just upgrade and let Microsoft decide drivers through windows update. HP does not have win 10 drivers for the fingerprint reader. You must install the legacy driver in compatibility mode.

Dont forget there are two separate drivers. One for the FP reader and the validity software to register your fingerprints. Now no fingerprint reader or "Windows Hello" or anything.

What I thought was a failed re-install of the drivers is just a quirk. The installer just disappears then you have to go in and manually update the driver. Will give this a try.
